((clothes. She was what Hunter had come into this desolate world for. The reason she'd needed to stay behind. Her best friend. the girl she'd actually fallen in love with. She stopped swinging by digging her heels into the sand, biting back tears. Just thinking about the other girl always made her upset. They'd been torn away from each other by their parents and then they'd died, on opposite sides of the country. Her throat closed up and she choked on sobs. She missed her so much it physically hurt her. "I shouldn't hurt," she moaned softly to herself, dropping her face into her hands, her shoulders shaking. Hunter didn't ever say her name aloud anymore. She told herself that she'd never say or even think the name until she saw her best friend in person again. She wrote her name down sometimes, and then tucked the piece of paper under her pillow. The name seemed to keep the monsters from destroying her, but they were still in her bed. She couldn't get rid of them until she came back. Hunter's sobs died away and she wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her jacket, sniffing pathetically. She looked up at the sky and frowned, her eyes blurry with tears still. Hunt hated crying, but she always felt batter after she did. She wrapped her arms around herself and stood up, swaying slightly. She wanted to go back home and sleep, but sleep rarely came for her in the Beyond. She looked back up at the sky for a moment and heard the sound of thunder. Then another one and the rain started pouring, soaking the girl's dark hair and making it stick to her neck and face. Hunter stared up at the rain for about ten minutes before she noticed that someone else was standing there next to the swings. She looked over at whoever it was and it took her a moment to realize it was a girl. A girl she'd recognize anywhere. One that even in death, she didn't want to be apart from. Her heart beat fast and she covered her mouth with a hand so she wouldn't scream. After another moment, she was calm enough to actually speak. "Lia?"[/ul]

lia hadn't been warm once since she left her hunter for the last time. she had assumed that once she'd died, somehow, silly human things like 'cold' wouldn't matter anymore. she had been wrong. death was remarkably like life, which, in a way, bothered her, but was, in a way, oddly comforting. sometimes she simply forgot that she was dead. she'd wake up, dizzy and empty and freezing, just like the way she had during the last weeks of her life. no food, no warmth, no hunter, no desire to stay alive. this time, though, she couldn't curl up into a ball and wait for death and all her monsters to sneak into the room and take lia quietly away. this time, all she could do was keep hoping that she would find her hunter, soonsoonsoon, before the went totally over the edge crazy. she felt herself getting there, knew that if she was totally honest, she was already way past that point. she had been, since the day she'd been dragged into her father's too perfect house by her too perfect step mother the scale nazi.
lia was wandering. that was what she was supposed to do though, right? it was her title around here or something. she had gotten up early(lie count of the day- one; she hadn't slept at all), taken a shower, forced down one single rice cake, and gotten dressed and ready. she was dressed that same way she always dressed. matching blue bra and panties, blue tiger striped tanktop and black and blue tights, ripped, falling-off-cause-they're-so-huge jeans held up by a studded belt and blue thermal shirt, oversized tee shirt and black lace up boots. a million more layers than the average person wore, and she was still freezing. blue lace gloves and tons of jewelery decorated her arms. two necklaces, both hearts, one a locket with her hunter's picture inside, laid over her sharp collarbones. her eyes were outlined in thick black lines, left overs of whatever didn't wash off in the shower. she didn't care how she looked anymore. why would she? the only reason she'd ever bothered with the way she looked was because of hunter. it was kind of difficult for her to admit, even now, just how much she loved her best friend. not for the reasons most people would think, though. the idea of being in love with a girl didn't bother her, she'd never had much interest in silly things like that. all that really freaked her out was the idea that she might lose hunter, if she let the other girl find out. she couldn't stand the thought of her hunter rejecting her in any way.
as lia wandered toward the park, it started to almost rain. oh yay. just what she needed to make her day better. stupid place, she thought, stupid damned dead place. she hated it here, but, unlike when she was still 'alive'(lie number two. she'd never been alive), there was no way out of this one. she wondered, absently, if you could die again. what would happen if you just stopped eating, totally, forever. would some higher power take pity on her eventually and let her lie down and rest for a while? somehow, she didn't think so. she ran a had through her already dripping wet hair, getting closer to the park- her destination for the day. when they were alive, she and hunter had spent lifetimes in various parks, sitting in the swings talking about their grand plans. everything had been perfect, or as close as it ever got. lia wanted to think that if she came to this park enough, someday, her hunter would find her. she didn't know what else she could do. since she got here, since she found out that her hunter had left the land of the living, she'd spent her days waiting here, or staying curled up in her bed, trying to get some sleep, wishing for a moment's peace that she knew she wouldn't get until she found her hunter. once she got to the edge of the little playground, lia finally looked up from the ground. immediately, her eyes widened, shocked at the girl she saw sitting in a swing. slowly, she took a couple of unsteady steps forward, toward the girl. "hun-hunter. hunter." she laughed wildly, and stopped to stand in front of her.
outfit, baby!

she murmured, the name coming to her lips several times. She moved closer to the girl and hesitated before touching her cheek. She thought her hand would go through her, but it didn't (thank God). She wasn't a ghost and her twig-like fingers stroked her friend's face, reveling in the feel of her skin. She was cold and Hunter felt a shiver go through her, out of either shock or response to the feeling. "I can't believe you're here," she whispered, feeling that anything louder would feel wrong to her. She might have said 'I can't believe you're alive' but that would have been wrong, since both of them were dead, one from poisoning, the other from hunger and pain. Hunter smiled at Lia, but it was just a small smile. A nervous one. Why am I nervous?! she demanded from herself. This is Lia! She answered herself quickly. Because you're in love with her, and she doesn't know it. Hunter sighed. She didn't have a problem with being in love with another girl at all, it was just that she was worried Lia didn't love her back as anything more than a friend. Her heart beat a little faster now, her eyes tracing the shapes of her friend's face that were so familiar. "I can't believe I found you," she told her, wanting to hold her tightly so bad but thinking better of it. She didn't want to scare Lia off. She would go back to her little hole if she did leave. She loved Lia, and she couldn't be without her, not in life or death, although she'd done it on both occasions and look where she ended up. Her throat closed up and she couldn't stop herself from wrapping her arms around the other girl, burying her face in her shoulder, tears stinging her eyes. She'd been doing so much crying lately that all she got was the feeling of tears now-a-days. She was all dried up. "Lia," she murmured again, her voice cracking.[/ul]
