Erika knew that the forest was dangerous. She knew that she should have stayed home. She knew that she was going to look for any way to hook up with someone tonight, though. Her misery was coming back, slowly but surly and she needed a good night to wash it away. The dead aren't scary, just sad, she remembered reading once. They were. Even she was. But She knew how to keep her attitude bubbly and her energy up. Danger and sex usually did that for her. She laughed aloud, walking through the forest with her group of friends, a flashlight in each of their hands. Parties didn't hurt either. She'd heard about the party last week in the woods, and how much fun it had been and how many people got drunk, and how epic it had been. Erika told herself she'd stay sober, but otherwise, a good time was gonna happen, even if whoever she managed to seduce was drunk as shit. She laughed again, starving the darkness free of fear. Poetic, right? Her flashlight pointed everywhere at once, and she couldn't help shuddering when she saw eyes glowing out at her. You're already dead, she reminded herself. You can't be killed again. Right? God, she hoped not. That would be really disappointing.
After about fifteen minutes, she found the party. A clearing in the woods, filled with bodies bouncing to the music blaring out of nearby speakers. She wondered how long that extension cord was, or if it had, like, huge batteries. Her friends dispersed and the girl was left alone and looking awkward. She moved away before people could start staring and headed over to the cooler where a young man was handing out beers for tips. She smiled at him, winking, and he handed her one. She licked her lips suggestively and she saw the man shudder before she disappeared into the crowd. There were a few spots that were crawling with people, wrapped up in each other and the red-head steered clear. She'd rather not get randomly groped or something along those lines. Erika managed to find a place that was pretty clear of people, only about five siting about the tree roots. She dropped down and folded her legs up under her, her pale skin looking mouthwatering. Her scars shined slightly in the light of the lanterns, but she didn't notice. She didn't care about them. They were history.
Erika flashed her flashlight in the direction of the forest as the boredom started to sink in. God, parties were supposed to be fun. They're fun for people who try, she told herself. So she was going to try. She got up and slipped into the pulsing crowd, dropping her flashlight on the ground and praying it wasn't gonna get stolen. Her body moved with the rest of the people and her fingers went through her hair in a sexy, suggestive way. Her skinny arms bumped against other people, who didn't even care. She could have jumped on someone and tackled them to the ground and they wouldn't have minded. Everyone was drunk, high, or living off the sex. Or a combination of the three. She was the only sober person in the place. Oh, well. At least she was having fun now.
